Soul Butter Station vol. 4 (Captured “live”/Isla Vista Worship)

I’m a sucker for an acoustic set that is stripped down to nothing else but the sound of a concert piano and a soulful lyricist. The purity, of such an organic duo, sets the stage for an intimate connection with the very soul of the artist. With all distractions removed, what remains is an invitation to witness the smile, cry, and heartbeat found in the touch and release of every note presented.

Although I am already an avid fan of acoustic sets, I find myself in a deeper level of musical euphoria when gospocentric stories of grace are linked into the melody. This describes my exact experience when I recently heard Mark Barlow’s (of Isla Vista Worship) live performance of their new single, “Captured.” The soulful sound of his lyric caused me to revisit my personal encounter with the grace of God. The intentional delicacy found in his voice reminded me of how Jesus captured my heart when I least expected it. His voice, combined with the rich delicacies of the piano, were nothing less than what I have come to describe as “soul butter”. Give it a listen.
