I’m a sucker for an acoustic set that is stripped down to nothing else but the sound of a concert piano and a soulful lyricist. The purity, of such an organic duo, sets the stage for an intimate connection with the very soul of the artist. With all distractions removed, what remains is an invitation to witness the smile, cry, and heartbeat found in the touch and release of every note presented.
Although I am already an avid fan of acoustic sets, I find myself in a deeper level of musical euphoria when gospocentric stories of grace are linked into the melody. This describes my exact experience when I recently heard Mark Barlow’s (of Isla Vista Worship) live performance of their new single, “Captured.” The soulful sound of his lyric caused me to revisit my personal encounter with the grace of God. The intentional delicacy found in his voice reminded me of how Jesus captured my heart when I least expected it. His voice, combined with the rich delicacies of the piano, were nothing less than what I have come to describe as “soul butter”. Give it a listen. I have included both “live” and “studio” version for your enjoyment.
Bendiciones,
John Eli
Lyrics
Pain makes my questions grow too large
And I feel that I’ve gone far
My memory fails me right
I get enslaved to my own mind
Forgetfulness of Your grace
Drags me around for miles
Until I see, until I see the corner of Your smile, oh-ohh
You were good to me before I knew Your name
Your grace freed me from a selfish pain
I was lost and I felt the need, the need for You
How could I ever leave?
‘Cause You’ve captured my heart
In ways I didn’t know I could be captured
Oh, You’ve captured my heart
In ways I didn’t know I could be captured
I fall so short from what I can’t achieve
Start to agree with what I don’t believe
My sensory fails the truth
As I disremember who I am in You
Forgetfulness of Your grace
Drags me around for miles
Until I see, until I see the corner of Your smile, oh-oh-ohh
You were good to me before I knew Your name
Your grace freed me from a selfish pain
I was lost and I felt the need, the need for You
How could I ever leave?
‘Cause You’ve captured my heart
In ways I didn’t know I could be captured
Oh, You’ve captured my heart
In ways I didn’t know I could be captured
‘Cause You’ve captured my heart
In ways I didn’t know I could be captured
Oh, You’ve captured my heart
In ways I didn’t know I could be captured
How could I ever leave?

Dumb question, but I have not posted in awhile and trying to put youtube video to my post like you have and I can not get it to embed. How do you do it? Not sure I am liking this new style with blocks and all that.

My gosh it has been a learning curve. I can only get it to work when using a PC and I select the option to “embed.” I place the url in the box that appears and submit it. It’s easier than it seems.

yeah that’s like the old way, I just can’t get it to embed. I will try my computer at home I guess. Maybe my work computer has a block on embedding or something, didn’t use to though.
