When the things you hate are found in your heart

I’ve been guilty of doing this on more than one occasion…. Thankfully, grace encountered my blindness and allowed me to see the error of my ways. Have you every experienced this? What steps did you take to overcome this folly?

  1. Hating things we find in our hearts might seem negative, but it’s actually a good thing if those things are sins.

To be honest, I find a bigger danger for me is trying to justify my sins, and quite frankly, perversely enjoying them.

I think to hate our sins is half the battle, because then we go to Christ for forgiveness and reconciliation to God.

    Thanks for the post 🙂

  2. Hypocrisy seems to “come with the territory” of being sinful human beings. And it happens most often when we take our eyes off of Christ and focus on this fallen world. Lord, help us to not do that!

  3. My dad used to say that it is wisdom to check if the things we detest in others aren’t things we do ourselves. I found it to be true. Truth is the cure, as we remain truthful to ourselves in the light of God’s word, we show more grace and mercy to others as the Holy Spirit works on us.

  4. I find that I tend to give a pass to those with similar faults because I understand the struggle. I find myself quick to condemn those whose errors aren’t things I struggle with. Either way God forgives and calls us to do the same. Compassion.

  5. The truth is, it’s easy to find fault in everybody else. That is why the “church” today is struggling to win people – rather than loving people, we judge them, and as the topic says, we probably judge them of he things we’re guilty of. I think it will be a good day when we, as the church, can stop looking for fault in people, looking for failure in people and just love people with the love of Christ. Thanks for sharing another great post John.

  6. It takes a truly honest self-assessment to recognize this in ourselves and strength and determination to make adjustments. God has helped me tremendously with bible principles and a lot of prayer. I strive to “strip off the old personality with its practices” and “clothe myself with the new personality” that’s full of love and designed by Jehovah God (Colossians 3:8-14). It’s takes time and it’s not easy but I’ve gained a lot of peace and a stronger relationship with God because of his process.

    1. That is so awesome. Thank you for stopping by and sharing your story. BTW. Colossians 3 is one of my favorite chapters, in the bible, when it comes to personal reflection. Thanks for pointing it out to others.
